CannaButter: How To

here is an easy to follow recipe to make Cannabutter, the basis of any edible

· Recipes,edibles,THC

What You'll Need

1 ounce ground cannabis (the stronger the cannabis, the stronger the butter)

1 pound butter (4 sticks)

2 cups water

Cheesecloth

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 225° F and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Spread the ground bud evenly atop and bake for 1 hour. This is the decarboxylation process. Your house is about to get real smelly but this is an important step if you want to make butter more potent, especially if cannabis was harvested recently (weed will naturally decarboxylate over time).

  1. Remove dried cannabis from the oven and crumble bigger pieces with your fingers, it doesn’t need to be powder but there shouldn't be whole nugs.

  1. In a medium pot bring 2 cups of water to boil. Add butter to melt. Once melted, reduce heat to a low setting so when it’s covered butter simmers, not boils.

  1. Add marijuana to water. The cannabis plant matter will float, there should be at least an inch or two of clearance under the cannabis. If not, add more water. Don't worry that adding more water will change the potency, as you'll be separating the water out later.

  1. Cook on medium-low for 3 hours, stirring occasionally. The bubbles should be gently rising to the top of the water but not actively boiling.

  1. Line a large bowl with two layers of cheesecloth. This is used to strain out the inactive plant matter

  1. Pour the butter mixture into the cheesecloth lined bowl. Use a spatula to press against the sides and squeeze out every last drop

  1. Refrigerate overnight to solidify. The water and any remaining plant matter will sink to the bottom.

  1. Once hardened use a knife to cut around the outside edges, it will usually pop out in one big piece.

  2. Store cannabutter in the fridge in its own container if use is immediate otherwise freezing the butter will keep it moldless for months without losing potency!

Now that your butter is complete, let your tastebuds free. Substitute Cannabutter into your favourite baking recipes or if you’re not much of a cook add a few teaspoons to warm maple syrup for pancakes, butter your toast, butter your popcorn, butter everything!

Remember the high from edibles is much different than smoking and can take 30-60 minutes (or more) to kick in.
